Vaazhl - to live

Vaazhl is the new movie from Aruvi fame Arun Prabu Purushothaman. Vaazhl is a movie which is as simple as the title. The movie explores the idea of living. There is not much when it comes to the plot of the movie. Prakash is the lead role in the movie. He works in an IT company and has a girlfriend, but it is clear he is not happy with his life. The general assumption everyone makes is that when someone has a well paying job and someone to love them, they should be happy but he is not. The movie kind of has an answer for that. Due to some unexpected events Prakash starts to travel and the travelling mentally gets him to the places where he wanted to be. Vaazhl shows how beautiful the world can be if we let it. This movie is just about the travel chapter of Prakash’s life and the people he meets in that time. “நீ சந்திக்கிற மனுஷங்க உன் வாழ்கையை மாத்துற சக்தி படைச்சவங்க” We don’t want to reveal anything about the movie. Vaazhl deserved a theatre release - at least the cinematographer des...

Pudhupettai - How to make a gangster movie

An innocent man turned to crime because of inevitable circumstances; gangster fights; gangster ego clashes; some primitive form of love that no character seems to be able to understand; gangsters in politics - Pudhupettai has all the tropes of a gangster movie, but then it turns into an unrecognisable monster, just like the main character. It is  really rare to see a negative character as a lead in Kollywood. Mostly the heroes will have a good reason for killing or being a gangster, ironically. Pudhupettai is a rare exception. Pudhupettai was released in 2006 and was not well received by the audience at that time (typical Selvaraghavan), starring Dhanush in the lead role. This movie “made” Dhanush, keeping up with the gangster lingo.  Movie is about a guy named Kumar, - Kokki Kumaru. We really can't say that the movie had a story, but it is about the character development of Kokki Kumaru at different stages of his life, as he experiences different things. Great movies a...

Why dogs love bones

Most carnivorous animals like lions and tigers and bears (and of course, humans), eat meat and leave out the bones. It is understandable, as meat contains essential nutrients and is easy to digest. But why do dogs love bones so much? Answering this question gives us a deeply insightful view on how evolution and selection works, and how man has nearly played god by almost creating a new animal. It is a story of how an unlikely acquaintance evolved into one of the most powerful bonds of friendship through the passage of time. It is a debated fact when this story starts, but it most likely started around 40,000 years ago. Agriculture had not yet been invented. The only source of food for humans was hunting and gathering. Meat was precious. All animals hunted for meat, not many succeeded. A particular animal was the ancient wolf. An ancestor of the grey wolf that we see in zoos, which looked very similar. The wolves were not always successful with their hunts. So they turned towards a plac...
